Past Work > Ascending Plants

This series represents a solicitation to hope. The images are based on stoops in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The stoop represents both an invitation and a challenge. The stairs reach out from a home to beckon a guest upward and yet those stairs are steep. In the painting it is the plants that ascend the steps. Each one reaching and hoping to rise up and catch the light. When you look at the painting there is only one path, upward. The image invites you to step forward, move up, and rise above.
